Aesthetic: Rich jewel tones with antique books

We’ve done quite a few weddings in Downtown Philadelphia, and it’s always great to bring a little floral beauty to the hulking tons of concrete and steel. So, that’s why we were pleasantly surprised when we found out that the College of Physicians had a stunning greenery covered wall abutting the ceremony space that could serve as a backdrop for our colorful arrangements.

What a hidden gem in the ultra-urban landscape!

I could actually say that about the whole of Adela and Paul’s wedding venue. The College of Physicians of Philadelphia is such an unexpected place for a wedding, and it ended up being such an amazing space to celebrate.

This New Beaux-Arts style building, which is over 100 years old, is chalk-full of elegance and grandeur. I’m talking a columned marble rotunda, a sweeping grand staircase, and a history-packed library that doubles as the reception space.

I can’t say enough good things about that library. The rich blue walls, the delicate wood millwork, the stately architecture, it made an already upscale wedding that much more magnificent and textured.

Staying on theme for the reception space, we saw another opportunity to create table arrangements around antique books. We also did this for Caroline and Jason’s wedding at the Philadelphia Free Library, and it is such a unique focal point for your reception tables. The old volumes looked right at home, nestled among the flowers.

But not all glory goes to the venue. I would be remiss to not mention the absolutely GIGANTIC and glorious burgundy Dahlias from Riverside Blooms that we were privileged to design with that day. The Curly Lisianthus was also as stunning and dramatic, and we had so many show-stopping blooms for an arch that stood out boldly against that ivy-covered wall.

All the rich jewel tones we end up with were perfect complements to Adela and Paul’s dusty blue bridal ensemble, and all the warm burgundy accents. I particularly loved the bride’s carefully crafted hairpiece. Something about fresh flowers in your hair. Magical.

We were so thrilled to be a part of the day, and can’t thank Adela and Paul enough for bringing us along to their elegant affair.
