2022 Best of Wedding Flowers

fall themed wedding bouquet

The whole Twig team stands here in gratitude for the wonderful 2022 season we’ve been honored to share with our couples.

I know everyone says, “this is our best year yet”, but truly, the opportunities afforded, challenges overcome, and connections made have surpassed even our wildest dreams when we began this business out of our houses.

There is not a day that passes without a sense of thanks for each couple and their families that chose us to share in their special day.

In honor of that, I want to do a round-up of some of our favorites things about the 2022 wedding season, and give you a little peak behind the curtain of these designs and moments and all of the people who made a mark on us this year.

Let’s start with some of our absolute favorite venues to work with, and one you should consider for your Pennsylvania wedding.

The magic of getting married at PARQUE Ridley Creek is something I can’t recommend enough. The landscape at PARQUE is an open invitation to create something amazing. This year alone, the themes we were able to make happen ranged from “Old World Romance” to “English Castle” to “Overgrown Garden”. The stone structures, the buildings, and the aesthetic make it a lush backdrop to anything in your imagination. There’s also the massive bonus that Peachtree Catering is an absolute A-team when it comes to creating event magic. We absolutely love working with them!

The above wedding of Fran and Josh stands out as one of our favorite events at this location because the bride loved PARQUE as much as we do, so TWIG really dove headfirst into creating a total transformation.

We knew we wanted to do hanging rose curtains, so we took the infamous opening in the stone wall in the ceremony space and extended the vision to the left and right to provide “windows” for a whole new view, which you can see in the landscape picture. Fran also donned a stunning Oscar De La Renta wedding dress and wanted a bouquet that would showcase her ensemble, so we specially crafted a purse bouquet that she could carry down the aisle. Even 3 weeks after having my youngest child, I wanted to be on site to witness the magic! Everyone that was a part of Team TWIG at that time, Megan, Mindy, Carly, Erin, Amy, and Madi (plus my sister in law Grace to document us!) worked so fluidly to put it all together and I couldn’t have been more proud.

Second on our list, is a venue that I think is completely underrated for being an incredibly fun space: enter, The Elmwood Park Zoo, where we were luckily enough to have weddings in both 2021 and 2022.

Each time we were setting up, the zoo was still open, and zoo guests were always so shocked and excited to know that the zoo could be a wedding venue!

Parents to three adorable kids, Chloe and Andrew picked the perfect family-centric venue for what they wanted to come from their wedding: a fantastic, fun, unforgettable party with friends and family!

I still dream in these colors and you can read more about it in this blog post.

It was especially breathtaking with the beautiful color palette chosen by Chloe and Andrew for their wedding. Chloe works in the professional event industry, so she really thought of SO many aesthetic details that brought an incredible, consistent theme to the whole day.  One takeaway from this wedding that everyone should consider for their tables: alternate napkin colors to include the whole palette - it looked so good with the colorful floral arrangements! When I think of a fun wedding, this one always comes to mind.

The Greenville Country Club is another under-appreciated gem!  With no Instagram to speak of, you’re getting the #exclusive here.

We got to decorate so many large spaces, including one massive bandstand, and it was such a fun experience with the team. Bride Erin loved all of the local color available in early October and really let us bring bright and rich colors into the historic clubhouse.

With the ability for each space to be so versatile and take on the themes of your wedding while retaining the stateliness of the grounds, the Greenville Country Club is now one of our favorite spaces outside of Pennsylvania.

If you’re willing to make the trek to Delaware, we highly recommend it!

Some other honorable mentions here include the Morris Arboretum, whose grounds you can see more of at Su and Andy’s wedding in this blog post.

We love this venue because not only is it beautiful, but you can have the convenience of your wedding close to Philadelphia, but with more accessible grounds! The lush green space and quiet would fool even a local for how close you actually are to the city.  This is a gorgeous property filled with gardens and endless photo opportunities, and the team at Morris is extremely accommodating to their couples’ and their design ideas.  It is always an honor to create floral arrangements within such a notable space.

The John James Audubon Center also stands out as such a lovely and close-to-nature venue that always thrills us when we get to visit. Bonus: did you know it’s also a bird preserve?! I’ve seen brides have special bird guests for their big day and it is magical!

The reception space alone is perfect: new, versatile, and gorgeous - an amazing backdrop no matter what your aesthetic is. Now pair that with the smooth operation of working with Jeffery A Miller as your catering team, and you’re golden!

Another showstopper was Ashley and Joe at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia.

You can read more about their amazing day in this blog post, but I had to put them here for honorable mention, again.

Though this wedding we were unable to source locally because of the tropical theme, it is still one of my absolute favorite bouquet moments. These flowers transported us to the tropics, and it was an absolute joy to work with Ashley and Joe to create their island paradise.

In addition to revisiting favorite venues, we have a list of favorite arrangements - from pocket-squares to arches - that will go down in TWIG history:

  • Hayley’s and Ethan’s PARQUE wedding, full of Anemone, Ranunculus, Butterfly Ranunculus, and Poppies from Hickory Grove Gardens, and their personal florals were gorgeous examples of how local farms are such a special way to make your wedding day flowers as fresh and vibrant as can be. Hayley had a few inspiration pictures for shape and size, but ultimately trusted us to make a timeless Spring bouquet for her that provided delicate movement with each turn of the bouquet!

  • Jatnaa + Khadijah’s wedding was a lesson that some of the best things come through improvisation, as we sourced Firebush from our own gardens to be included in their arrangements. The leaves were all at different stages of changing to red and the branches tied in some color from every flower we had. Their arch and tall centerpieces showed the full gradient of color changes that happen in Fall.

  • Marissa + Craig helped remind us to choose peak season flowers for jaw-dropping arches, as we transformed Terrain’s metal arch into a luscious, ‘overgrown Garden’ work of art with highly coveted peonies and orange blossom at the heights of their beauty.

  • Adela + Paul had us thankful for the artistry of amazing floral farmers like Riverside Blooms who could provide GIGANTIC Dahlias curly Lisianthus that was so beautiful.  These local farms work so hard and put so much care into their product, and it looked especially bright against the green wall at The College of Physicians (a great blank slate for a colorful piece!)

  • Nicole + Anthony taught us to always be ready to bring our creativity and ability to think outside of the box when designing florals for our couples. Their unique and adorable boutonnieres incorporated enamel pins that all of the guys picked out, each special and meaningful to the person wearing it. Nicole also had with a multitude of Dahlias with blended colors that looked like a watercolor painting come to life. It suited her perfectly and you can see it at the top of the page.

  • Making Chloe and Andrew’s pocketsquares was a valuable lesson in being proud enough of what we create to share it beyond our wedding couple, so that others can fall in love too! As soon as we posted studio videos of us making these pieces, two other couples reached out to change their designs too.  Such an amazing alternative for someone who wants to up their boutonniere game.

Finally, each wedding served to remind us that each couple and their unique vision was a challenge that could be met by the amazing relationships that we’ve been lucky enough to build across the wedding industry and beyond.

From just the right fun and funky Dahlias for a quirky bouquet, to the in-house teams we work with to set up hot and vibrant reception centerpieces, to the planners that facilitate the most gorgeous days where we're welcomed with open arms, we love the people and places we’ve been honored to work with.

And so, as we finish the year strong with a dazzling New Year’s eve wedding this weekend, we remain humbled and grateful that we were there for each of these special occasions, and that we get to continue bringing beautiful, local wedding flowers and designs to our booked couples in 2023 and 2024.

Thank you for being here with us!

-Carly + Mindy and the TWIG Team.
